Client Gift Ideas That Feel Personal, Not Promotional

By Zoey & Lex ·

Personalized mug with Peet’s coffee in a white gift box, a simple client gift idea

Most client gifts get opened, smiled at and put in a drawer. A branded notebook. A tumbler with your logo on it. Another tin of popcorn. Nobody’s offended, but nobody remembers who sent it either.

The client gift ideas that actually work have one thing in common: they end up in your client’s home, not their office. A mug they reach for every morning. A candle they light on a Sunday. A box of good coffee they finish and think, “who sent this again?” That’s the moment you want.

Here’s how we’d plan client gifts this year, plus the gifts we’d send.

Start With the Relationship, Not the Budget

Before you pick a single gift, sort your list into two or three groups. Most businesses have a handful of clients who are the business, a bigger group they work with regularly, and a long tail of people they want to thank.

Give each group its own gift. Your closest clients get something that feels generous. Everyone else gets something thoughtful that doesn’t break the budget. Nobody compares notes, and you stop agonizing over one gift that has to work for 80 people.

Keep the IRS $25 Rule in Mind

If you’re deducting client gifts, know that the IRS only lets a business deduct $25 in gifts to any one person per tax year. That rule comes straight from IRS Publication 463.

It doesn’t mean you can’t spend more. It just means anything over $25 per person comes out of your pocket, not your tax bill. That’s one reason plenty of companies give a gift set to most clients and save a bigger gift box for their closest ones. (Talk to your accountant about your own situation. We sell gifts, we don’t do taxes.)

Simple Client Gifts for a Big List

For a big list, simple and useful wins.

A personalized mug with coffee or cocoa. Our Mug and Coffee Gift Set pairs a personalized ceramic mug with Peet’s Dark Roast. It’s $29. Put your client’s name on the mug and it stops being a corporate gift and starts being their mug.

The Mug and Cocoa Gift Set swaps in Ghirardelli Double Chocolate hot cocoa with marshmallows, for the clients who’d rather skip the caffeine. It’s $29.

A candle with a keepsake. The Holiday Candle and Ornament Gift Box pairs a hand-poured soy candle in Cashmere or Fireside with a keepsake ornament. It’s $25, warm without being loud, and it works for clients you don’t know well.

Client Gift Ideas for Your Best Clients

For the clients who keep your lights on, go bigger and more personal.

A gift box built around something they love. Our Coffee Lovers Holiday Gift Box comes with a rich dark blend coffee, a holiday mug, a glowing decorative vessel and our hand-poured Cashmere soy candle, arranged in a white gift box with seasonal greenery. It’s $99, and it shows up looking like somebody took their time.

A gift box for the men on your list. The Fireside Reserve Luxury Gift Box brings together a personalized mug, premium coffee, a leather keychain, a leather bracelet and our Fireside soy candle. It’s $99.

Gifts Your Client’s Team Can Share

Sometimes the right client gift goes to the whole office. The Tote and Mug Gift Set pairs a canvas tote with a matching mug, and it’s a nice gesture for the office manager who always answers your emails. It’s $39.

When to Send Client Gifts

Send them in the first two weeks of December. Late November feels early, and anything after the 15th competes with every other package on their porch. If your clients take a holiday break, earlier is better.

Our orders are typically processed within 1 to 2 business days, and shipping is free on every order within the United States.

Write the Note Yourself

The note matters more than the gift. A one-line, handwritten-feeling thank you beats a printed card with your logo every time. Mention something specific: the project you finished, the year you’ve had together, the thing they did that made your job easier.

You can add a gift note to any Zoey & Lex order before checkout, and it travels with the gift.

Client Gift Ideas to Skip

Some client gifts work against you. Anything heavily branded feels like marketing, not a thank-you. Alcohol can be a misstep if you don’t know whether someone drinks. And fruit or food that spoils fast is a gamble if their office is closed for the holidays. Cozy, useful things that keep, like coffee, cocoa and soy candles, are the client gift ideas that travel well and get used.

Planning Gifts for a Whole Client List?

If you’re sending more than a few gifts, tell us about it. Our corporate gifts page has a short form: how many gifts, who they’re for, and when you need them. We’ll reach out by email and plan the rest with you.

Common Questions

What Are Good Client Gift Ideas for Christmas?

How Much Can a Business Deduct for Client Gifts?

Under IRS Publication 463, a business can't deduct more than $25 in gifts to any one person during its tax year. Ask your accountant how that applies to you.
